Novi Sad has always had top photographers and photo reporters. It is a long list of masters who have immortalized the time in which they lived and worked through the lens of a camera.
That is the manner in which the rich visual history of our town has been written, from the second half of the 19th century—when it deservedly bore the sublime title of “Serbian Athens”—until modern times.
Darko Dozet is among those artists writing our town’s history today: first as a photo reporter of Dnevnik, then at Tanjug, and finally at Večernje novosti.
During the past two decades, not one significant event in any sphere of social life has passed without him capturing its most essential, impressive, and interesting aspects with his camera.
He hasn’t missed the people either—from ordinary individuals, whose faces are the best indicators of the true nature of our lives, to the most distinguished figures from the worlds of art, politics, sports, and other fields.
Novi Sad is a great city, especially in the hearts of those who were born here, as well as those who came and fell in love with it as if it were their birthplace. For Darko Dozet, however—or rather, for his creative restlessness—it is often too small.
This uncontrollable creative restlessness, together with the call of our Slavic ancient homeland, took him as far as Russia. It is truly hard to determine what was more beautiful to see in Večernje novosti—the photographs he took there or the reports that accompanied them.
This monograph contains all of that and so much more. That is why it is so valuable—not only for the history of our town, but for the history of our people and beyond.
Therefore, it gives us great pride to have among our fellow citizens people such as Darko Dozet.
