If we are to speak about the heroes of our profession, we inevitably have to mention Darko Dozet.
His significance lies not only in the fact that he has endured for twenty years in the media during these turbulent times—the proof of which is this photo monograph—but also in the fact that he does his work with love. He has preserved his emotions, without becoming numb to everything he sees and the reality he captures.
Darko loves people. He has not closed that small door in the human mind that is so often shut in the face of pain, suffering, and helplessness. He remains devoted to the fundamental task of journalism—to record reality as it is—but he has also retained that noble aspect of the profession: the desire to make the world a better place.
Darko’s photographs undoubtedly inspire new generations of young people to enter the world of photography. That is why it is so valuable to have the best of his work selected and gathered in one place, as he has done in this monograph.
In a time when journalism is often diminished, his active humanism restores respect for the profession in the eyes of ordinary people.
